Jules Richard took over his father’s precision instrument company in the late 19th century and patented a stereo camera called the Versacope in 1893.
In addition to handheld viewers, Richard manufactured revolving stereoscopes for glass slides in the new format, later called Le Taxiphote.
This stereo viewer has been carefully modified with a front light, held in with a magnet, so that photographic prints can be used instead.
Currently the viewer houses 3D printed holders, with stereo prints in each, which are held inside the original magazine.
The viewer could be used with glass slides as originally intended, without any modification.
